This was a concept of mine early on in the Smaug design phase. I wanted to give him a hard, bony structure on his head so he could smash around through tunnels under the mountain. We played with some far out there designs at first, but I'm glad the end design is a Quintessential Dragon! The image was released in the book, "Smaug; Unleashing the Dragon"
